Alternative L5P/L5D E41 ECM Upgrade Option: Direct OBDII Upgrade

If you’re looking for an even more simple option to upgrade your 2018-2023 L5P E41 truck for tuning, you can upgrade your ECM directly via the OBDII port with VCM Suite! No upgrade kit or send-in service required. All you need is an MPVI3 or MPVI4 device, (6) Universal Credits for licensing, and the latest version of VCM Suite. Note: This direct OBDII upgrade is ONLY available for 2018-2023 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500/3500 6.6L Duramax trucks. 2017 models still require either the send-in upgrade service or the GM E41 ECM Upgrade Kit.

The key advantage? No need to remove the ECM from the vehicle! This eliminates the risk of damaging delicate components during removal and reinstallation.

This kit also eliminates the need for complex reprogramming or relearns. With this upgrade, you’ll gain full tuning access through HP Tuners’ VCM Suite, allowing you to optimize performance for the supported GM vehicles.

As of March 17th, 2026, users no longer need to upgrade the GM T93 TCM with a send-in service or this upgrade kit. Simply license and tune the controller as normal. The GM E90 ECM still requires to be upgraded with this kit or the send-in service.

GM T93 TCM Support: The GM T93 TCM no longer needs to be upgraded. Simply license and tune as normal directly via the OBDII port.
